OCI at DOD "National SBIR Beyond Phase II Conference and Technology Showcase"
ATLANTA, GA - OCI was invited to exhibit and attend the DOD-wide conference for SBIR Phase II companies, held at the CNN Center in downtown Atlanta, Georgia this week. Some 500 people were at the conference to exhibit or learn of new technology initiatives funded by the DOD SBIR Program Office. The purpose of the conference is to enable Phase II companies to reach a broader audience of prospective projects, beyond the agency that funded the initial phases of the SBIR Project. Beyond Phase II are the commercialization pilot programs (CPPs). These allow the DOD to recover their investments in the innovations with a managed transition into operation. The four days of sessions included one-on-one meetings with DOD Program managers and their technical staff to brief them on available technologies.
Major prime contractors, including some from overseas, were also in attendance and met with the SBIR companies to discuss their project plans.
Dr. Ebrahim Moshiri, CEO of OCI, noted, "These events are great opportunities for the country's innovative small businesses. We need to spur more innovation in our smallest companies as they are the most agile and quick to move."
OCI was exhibiting its range of OpenDDS open source products and tools developed under NAVAIR sponsorship for use in their AWACS mission simulation systems. OpenDDS is also being used on board weather research aircraft, in robotic manufacturing systems, sonar, and high performance trading systems.
Beyond Phase II, OCI wil be expanding the products and transitioning them into the simulation labs.
