St. Louis Mo. September 9, 2008: the US Navy, (NAVAIR) awarded a phase 1 contract to OCI to adapt its real-time open source software called OpenDDS for use in Navy Hawkeye simulation systems. OCI was selected from amongst 19 submissions to the Navy Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Program.
This initial design phase is for 4-6 months with an option for additional 6 months to transition into phase 2. After a successful exit and transition from phase 1, then phase 2 will commence. This second phase implements the software. It is valued at $750,000.00 and is expected to take about two years.
OpenDDS is the latest of several mission critical, widely used, open source software products developed and supported by OCI. OpenDDS is used by systems requiring widespread dissemination of updates to large volumes of data. Systems that typically use this type of technology are weapons systems (target tracking, battlefield management), factory floor control systems, financial data (market data) distribution systems, and traffic management (air and auto).
DDS (Data Distribution Service) is a technology standard developed by the Object management Group a standards setting organization. OCI is a member of the OMG and has been involved in the development of the standard.
Dr Moshiri the CEO of OCI expressed his satisfaction at this award. “In the last ten years we have been developing expertise in world class mission critical software for use in the most demanding systems. Naval simulation systems are the gold standard and this award is testimony to the skills of our engineers. This award will enable us to strengthen the product and our position in the market.”
